The Design Centre

Belfast

Client: The Construction Service

This large office block on the edge of Belfast City centre, was built in the early 1990’s, and featured large curtain glazing, that left it’s occupants suffering from solar heat stress.

We applied 3M SV SR ultra window film to 1200m2. This reduced the heat and glare by 65%, whilst maintaining a neutral outside appearance, and avoiding a highly reflective finish.

Muckross House

Killarney

Client: Muckross Trustees

This historic house set within Killarney National Park, is one of Ireland’s top tourist attractions. The house dates back to the early 19th Century, and is famous for the Royal Visit by Queen Victoria.

The staff at Muckross House, using UV light detection equipment, discovered that the light levels were dangerously high, thus endangering the valuable prints located in the house to fading and ruination from sunlight.

We were commissioned to fit traditional roller blinds in a Holland fabric, manufactured to a Victoria patent. Each window had a blue blind fitted to the outside face and a stone coloured blind on the room side, allowing staff to control light levels and thus protecting the valuable paintings and artefacts.

St. Georges Market

Ten years ago this historic market had a major refurbishment with new roof lights and double glazing fitted.

As a result of this refurbishment, the traders complained that the heat build up was unbearable, and made working with fresh produce impossible.

The solution was to apply Behaert Silver Solar film on the inner face of 1700 D G units. This work was completed within 6 weeks, working around the market days of Friday and Saturday.

Donghadee Chapel

Client: Bavan Contractors

Donghadee Chapel has had a complete makeover with an extensive use of light wood frames and internal glass.

Our brief was to depict Saint Comgall on his journey from Ireland to the Isle of Iona, by the application of various window graphics. A number of logos and symbols from Donghadee Parish were also prepared and installed.

Client: The National Trust

These houses are examples of the magnificent historic houses that The National Trust are responsible for and maintain.

We applied UV film to all 3 properties, together with Holland roller blinds, to facilitate The National Trust to maintain the correct light levels and aid their conservation work.

Before the application of the UV film could take place, it was necessary to remove the existing film, as it had decayed. Such a process required us to work on original glass which dates back to 1750.

Cabin Hill Preparatory School

We were commissioned to fit a graphic puzzle to the glass wall of the new library.

Author’s names and book titles were jumbled up and applied in a wave pattern to stimulate the pupil’s interest in books and literature.

Numerous branches throughout Northern Ireland

Client: McLaughlin & Harvey

McLaughlin and Harvey appointed us to carry out work on numerous branches of Ulster Bank throughout Northern Ireland, as the branches were transformed.

Graphics, signage and manifestation were applied in an ongoing prospect.

Hillsborough Castle

The Queens official residence in N.Ireland & one of its many historic buildings

We removed the existing window film from georgian panes & replaced it with a UV filter to help protect the interior fabrics & paintings from damage from direct sunlight. This work was completed within two months & is covered by a 10 year warranty.

This new office block located in central Belfast is home to the staff of the New York Stock Exchange. We applied a clear safety to enhance the existing glazing & bring it up to current European standard EN12150.

E Bay

Client: E Bay

With extreme solar heat gain throughout the building, E Bay’s air conditioning system struggled to cope.

To combat this problem we fitted R 20 silver film on the inner face of tinted DG units. This method reduced solar heat gain by 65%, and helped reduce the office temperature and air conditioning running costs.

COMMERICAL BUILDINGS      

This is an example of a commercial building that we have worked on in the past year. The client wanted to increase the safety of the 12mm toughened glass & ask us to apply a clear safety film to the inner face to bring the glazing up to the latest standard.

Bespoke Graphics,Printing & Artwork

We are also able to design, print & cut bespoke graphics, pictures & artwork. In the examples a school asked us to merge pictures of a cross & a hill, print it onto obscure vinyl, then fit it to the inside of a double glazed unit before it was fitted into a lightwell to give a stain glass effect .Belfast Zoo required a giraffe type pattern around the glass in their new tearoom at the top of the zoo & a Rugby club wanted their crest done in a sandblasted effect on the doors of the clubhouse.
